Weights & Measures

Overview

The purpose of the weights and measures program is to inspect and test all commercially used devices. Our county inspector visits area retailers at a minimum of once each year without notice. If a device is found to be inaccurate, the business is given a fair amount of time to correct the problem, and then they are reinspected. The auditor can reject the device, condemn the device, or in extreme cases, confiscate the device if the problem is not corrected.

Service companies that install, service or repair weighing and measuring devices are required to be licensed with the State of Ohio. They must report their work to the county weights and measures inspector, and the inspector must validate and verify the accuracy.

As the sealer of weights and measures, the auditor, protects the consumer, as well as the seller, by ensuring that each measuring device is accurate. This saves each consumer hundreds of dollars in overcharges each year.
