Keys Facts About Ohio's Child Support Program

  • The Child Support Program encourages responsible parenting, family self-sufficiency, and child well-being by providing services to locate parents, establish paternity, establish, modify, and enforce support obligations, and collect support for children.
  • 1 in 3 children are affected by this program and total collections for FFY18 were $1.7 Billion.
  • Over 40% of the children in Ohio are born to unmarried parents. The Child Support Program assisted in establishing paternity for 55,046 children in FFY18.
  • The Child Support program is very cost effective, collecting $6.28 for every dollar expended, which is higher than the national average.
  • Child support is an important source of financial help for poor families, lifting over a million children and adults out of poverty nationwide per year.
  • The Child Support program reduces or avoids the need for other public programs by recovering costs and by reducing or eliminating the need for public assistance programs.

In Fulton County, there are over 2000 child support cases with just under $7 million collected annually.
