April is Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Awareness Month

Childhood is a formative time, and abuse and neglect have devastating long-term effects on young lives that transcend into adulthood.

Last year there were over 19,000 confirmed reports of child abuse and/or neglect recorded in Ohio.

Child abuse and neglect are a community concern impacting 314 children in Fulton County in 2018.

Adverse childhood experiences such as child abuse and neglect can negatively impact one’s mental and physical health across the course of a life-span.

It is the responsibility of the community to protect a child’s inalienable right to a safe and nurturing childhood.

Ohio recognizes the heroes in parents, family members, educators, public officials and faith-based organizations who share the responsibility to protect our youth and to ensure that children are safe and can grow up without fear of abuse and neglect to realize their full potential.

Ohio now calls on all Ohioans to, “Be a Hero in the Eyes of a Child – one simple act of encouragement as a time."

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners proclaim the month of April 2019 to be CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH and ask all county employees and community members to promote child abuse and neglect prevention by wearing blue apparel on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
