Many families are faced with raising the children of their family members. These children are grandchildren, nieces, nephews or even cousins. The care that is provided is termed Kinship Care and involves becoming the full-time substitute care provider for the children. Reasons for this include death, chronic illness, substance abuse, incarceration, domestic violence, child abuse or neglect, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, poverty, or other problems. Limited resources for kinship providers make this truly a selfless act. Fulton County recognizes and appreciates the support of families in providing this care.
